FITTING OF OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT AND/OR MODIFICATIONS TO ROAD VEHICLES

  1. The purpose of this circular is to remind Identification Plate Approval (IPA) holders of their obligations under the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 regarding optional equipment and/or modifications offered for the vehicles they supply to the Australian market.

  1. The presence of an identification plate on a vehicle at first registration is an assurance by the IPA holder that the vehicle complies with the relevant Australian Design Rules (ADRs).

  1. To ensure compliance with section 13A of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989, IPA holders must ensure that any optional equipment and/or modifications they offer for their vehicles, either as original equipment or for aftermarket fitting, do not invalidate compliance with any of the applicable ADRs.
